I've got your generation gap right here

We watched Napolean Dynamite last night, because we figured we might as well see what all the fuss was about.

WTF?

Seriously. That movie sucked ass on so many levels. I can't believe how bad it was.

We tried to watch it ironically, as satire, as heartfelt, as a dream sequence, as a tribute to foreign films. Nothing worked.

BECAUSE THAT MOVIE IS NOT FUNNY.

So, in short:

Napolean Dynamite sucks ass.

(As do the films of Wes Anderson and Judd Apatow. You all blow.)

  1. OK, I'm totally with you on Napolean Dynamite. WTF, indeed. Not funny. Not even in a dumb-funny or ironic-funny or even particularly quotable-line-funny way.

But Wes Anderson? Yes, weird. Yes, sometimes not funny or not making any sense or not making the really clever point they think they must be making. But I thought The Royal Tennenbaums and The Life Aquatic, etc., were fascinating. Definitely not the usual crappe anyhow.

  2. Glad you agree about ND.

I loathed The Royal tennenbaums, particularly since it was supposed to be "like" the Glass family in Salingers' works. That made me want to punch everyone in that movie, including Angelica Huston and the Wilson brothers, who I usually love.

Life Aquatic did not hold my interest for even a minute. I'm not a Bill Murray fan (except for Stripes), so that was a big part of it.

It's not the usual crappe, but it's still bad.
