Decisions, Decisions

As I have mentioned before, we don't like the girl very much and are intent on sending her away to boarding school so that we don't have to parent anymore.

We've narrowed it down to two schools.

One is 45 minutes away.

The other is 9.5 hours away.

Both are excellent schools.  Both would be good for her.  Either will be lucky to have her.

I keep vacillating, as does the girl, about which school would be the better fit.

The husband doesn't really vacillate.  He's made his decision.

It's the school 9.5 hours away.

And that's where I'm leaning.

And that's where the girl is leaning.

Except for at night, or first thing in the morning, when I think, ARE YOU FUCKING CRAZY?  SHE'S JUST A BABY! SHE NEEDS TO STAY AT HOME, WITH HER MOMMY.

At that point, I start thinking about homeschooling.

When did making a positive decision for my child's future become so fucking hard?  Why doesn't this get any easier?

  1. Oh I don't envy your decision!! I feel like every decision with regard to the child is fraught with weeks of insomnia and anxiety. But I'm sure if she's anything like you she is going to rule the school in a matter of hours, whichever one you choose!!

  2. 9 hours is still driveable by a mad maniac mom on a friday night to go get her baby.

    I could do 9 hours.

    With only one potty stop.

  3. Ummm...how old is the girl? If she is going for college I say go to the 9.5 hour school but if it is for elementary school then I would say that is a long commute everyday.

  4. New here so I don't know how old your daughter is, but I would imagine that it's a tough decision at any age.

I guess the most important thing is what she's comfortable with...

    Good luck!

  5. whatever you pick will be fine. a plane ride vs a car ride is not that big a diff.

  6. Verily, it is hard.

If she's reasonably resilient, I'd vote for the distant one everyone is leaning toward. If rescue is gonna take two days instead of one afternoon, she'll figure out how to get through without being rescued.

I can't help with mama's resilience. But you will probably make some wicked care packages, either way.

  7. How old is your daughter? Because age and maturity would make all the difference in my decision. I wanted to go to boarding school sooo badly growing up! And I would've been fine from a young age, going off and leaving my mom and family behind. I've always loved adventure. But now that I'm the mom, I'd probably do what my mom did and say no way, lol. You are brave, and I'm sure you'll make the right decision!

  8. You are sooo lucky! There are many days I wish my daughters would go away to boarding school. But, I don't think they take six year olds. Do they?

  9. If you have a hybrid and a bladder of steel, you could probably do the 9.5-hour drive without stopping.
